The point of this story is that whether you're gunning for one-hole groups or cape buffalo, you're in the same boat with Tony Boyer. Boyer and thousands of like-minded accuracy fanatics shoot Shilens. ![]() The bottom line is, when Tony began shooting Shilen barrels in 1988, his percentage of Hummer Barrels increased dramatically. (Ed Shilen wonders if they are simply extremely accurate barrels that give the impression they're shooting through conditions.) Tony named those barrels that are capable of ignoring the wind "Hummers", and his shooting career has since been occasioned by a continuing search for these unusual and somewhat controversial barrels. Even if he did not pick up the conditions very well, the barrel kept putting shot after shot through the same hole. He was stunned to discover that bullets launched by this barrel were less affected by the wind. This particular rifle shot very well in calm conditions, but when the wind began to blow, the way the gun shot was-as Tony described it-eerie. In 1987 he described in Precision Shooting Magazine a bizarre incident that occurred while he was shooting a friend's benchrest rifle. He switched to Shilen for a very unusual reason. As you'd expect, the way Tony stays on top is by shooting the very finest equipment he can find. ![]() Since 1986, Tony Boyer of Keezletown, Virginia, has literally dominated benchrest competition in this country.
